Caneel Bay Gets a Renovation

Located on the tranquil island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands — much of which is a national park — Caneel Bay was for many years one of the most popular of my recommended properties in the Caribbean. Over time, however, I began to receive an increasing number of complaints from members. Nearly all acknowledged the resort’s peerless beaches but criticized the old-fashioned accommodations and dilatory service. Eventually, with considerable reluctance, I decided to drop it from The Andrew Harper Collection. I was delighted to learn therefore that a major renovation is now under way. Premium Beach Front rooms have been completely refurbished, and work will begin on the Premium Ocean View rooms in the fall. When the various projects have all been completed, I will pay a visit to make another assessment.
