The most dramatic segment of the Garden Route lies just east of Plettenberg Bay. For about 50 miles, the landscape is one of forests, gorges, waterfalls and vertiginous cliffs. Known as Tsitsikamma, the area was incorporated into the larger Garden Route National Park in 2009. Here, you will find the most popular hiking route in South Africa, the challenging Otter Trail. The path is only 26 miles long, but it takes five days to complete. Fortunately, there are easier routes. The Pied Kingfisher Trail is about seven miles long and provides a memorable day’s exercise.
