Video: Riding the Anpanman-Themed Train in Japan

The Japanese have a way of making everything cute. I found myself enjoying the most random things, like warning signs and garbage trucks. The trains are no exception.

On our journey from Kyoto to Matsuyama, we were lucky enough to catch the Anpanman train on the Yosan line. Anpanman is a beloved Japanese cartoon character who has adventures with his friends Currypanman, Uncle Jam and Cheese.

This local train wasn’t as fast as a shinkansen, but the colorful scene made it the most enjoyable ride of our trip. We shot video exploring the train before settling into our green class cabin for the crossing of the Setouchi, Japan’s scenic but industrial inland sea.
