Thomas Henkelmann’s classic French cuisine remains the chief draw at this renovated 19th-century Victorian mansion on the Belle Haven peninsula, 45 minutes northeast of Manhattan. The interior combines period charm with Asian artifacts, bronze sculptures and contemporary paintings. The 18 individually decorated rooms and suites are divided among the mansion, the cottage buildings and a carriage house. Most of the traditional European-style lodgings feature four-poster beds, bold palettes, rich fabrics, fine art and antique furniture. Rooms also come with spacious baths complete with heated concrete-tile floors and soaking tubs. Lavish meals are served in a timbered dining room flanked by an airy sunporch and a flower-bedecked veranda furnished with white wicker chairs.
