Aspen's Hotel Jerome, now an Auberge Resorts property, is currently closed and will re-open this December after an extensive renovation. It is now accepting reservations for the winter ski season. Its new owners promise to blend elegant historic details with an updated design and new amenities. Renovation highlights include the lobby and atrium, a stylish new restaurant, 93 luxuriously updated guest rooms and a new Auberge spa.
The three-story, red brick Hotel Jerome has stood on the corner of East Main and North Mill streets since 1889. Constructed by Macy's president Jerome Wheeler, the property was intended to be a grand hotel in the European tradition. It was the first hotel west of the Mississippi to boast luxuries such as electricity and running water. Rooms started at $4 a night.
