Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin, and Amanresorts: Haute Cuisine in the Himalayas

.article-cta-top

Most travelers visit the miraculously unspoiled Kingdom of Bhutan for its vibrant culture and remarkable Himalayan landscapes dotted with fortified monasteries. This mountainous country about the size of Switzerland is one of the last places on the planet where residents (by law) wear traditional clothing and where all new buildings are constructed in the indigenous style. And because this time capsule of a kingdom strictly limits the number of visitors, the villages and countryside remain blessedly free of tourist crowds. If that’s not enough, travelers in September can add “spectacular cuisine” to the long list of reasons to visit Bhutan. Amankora, a set of five exquisite lodges owned by Amanresorts, is hosting Eric Ripert, the Michelin-starred chef of New York’s renowned Le Bernardin. At Amankora Thimphu, Ripert will prepare celebratory dinners on September 14 and 15, combining Le Bernardin techniques with local ingredients. Ripert will then continue on to the other Amankora lodges in Punakha, Gangtey, Bumthang and Paro, visiting monasteries, shopping in local food markets, foraging for mushrooms and picnicking in the valleys. Guests staying at Amankora lodges from September 14-27 may be able to join Ripert on some of these excursions. Amankora or your travel consultant can help ensure that your itinerary intersects with Ripert’s.
