While there is no shortage of diversions on the Vineyard, to my mind, the summer highlight is the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society Livestock Show and Fair (August 15-18 this year). Set on a 21-acre site in West Tisbury, it is a celebration of the island’s agricultural heritage. Ribbons are proudly displayed beside the pens and cages of livestock, and inside a handsome post-and-beam barn, you’ll find displays of produce and flowers, as well as the handiwork of local artisans. A merry-go-round keeps children diverted, and everyone loves the food, from corn dogs to ice cream.
