Farlam Hall Gets New Owners

Located just a few miles from Hadrian’s Wall, the famous Roman fortification that mirrors much of the present border between England and Scotland, Farlam Hall is a quintessential country house hotel, with a notable restaurant, which has long been a particular favorite of Hideaway Report members.

The creeper-covered Victorian mansion, set on a 6-acre estate and surrounded by the unspoiled landscape of the Cumbrian hills, is a place of timeless tranquility. Since 1975, the 12-bedroom property has been owned and run by members of the Quinion family. Now, 44 years on, they have decided to retire, and the business has been sold to Joseph Walter and Kathy Mares from Seattle.

The new American owners have been staying at the hotel for the past 20 years, so continuity may be expected. Apparently, all the existing staff have been retained, and sous chef Matt Jefferson has been promoted. However, a new husband-and-wife management team has been installed, and the interior of the property is to be refreshed in a traditional style appropriate to Farlam’s serene rural surroundings.
