This month’s Hideaway Report features Italy's stunning lake region including Lake Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda. Discover the three newly recommended hotels in Italy from the July 2013 issue below.
Lake Como, Italy
Hillside 1910-vintage hotel offering views of Lake Como from 97 comfortable rooms, including new fifth-floor all-suite “hotel within a hotel.”
Exceptionally attentive and thoughtful staff; beautiful views over the lake from very comfortable rooms; terrific bar with excellent list of grappas; first-rate spa with indoor pool.
Almost every ferry on Lake Como stops on one of the landings adjacent to the hotel, which means it’s easy to sightsee without a car. Read more about Grand Hotel Tremezzo.
Lake Como, Italy
Intimate peach-colored mansion; constructed in the 18th century by a wealthy family from Milan. Well-lit bedroom came with a very comfortable four-poster bed dressed with fine Italian linens, while the separate salon was equally attractive and provided a white cotton-upholstered couch.
The intimacy and calm here make it genuinely but unselfconsciously romantic; junior suites are exceptionally spacious.
The best nearby restaurant is the Crotto dei Platani. Read more about Relais Villa Vittoria.
Lake Garda, Italy
Charming 18-room hotel within 14th-century stone convent amid 27 acres of orchards and olive groves, on a hillside with panoramic views of Lake Garda.
Charming staff; simple but very comfortable rooms; lovely location; very good restaurant.
This intimate hotel, popular with affluent English and German couples, is a delightful and well-run country auberge, not a luxury hotel. Read more about Villa Arcadio.
