Lindblad Expeditions has acquired Australia-based Orion Expedition Cruises. The Orion will formally join the Lindblad fleet in March 2014, when it will be renamed National Geographic Orion. The acquisition will increase Lindblad's passenger capacity by 18 percent.

Founded in 1959 by Lars-Eric  Lindblad, the adventure cruise company currently runs five small vessels in a partnership with National Geographic. Orion was founded in 2004 and operates one vessel, the 102-passenger Orion, whose Borneo and Kimberly sailings will continue into 2014.
