The Alpina Gstaad opened last weekend. The $337 million project took four years to complete and is the first new luxury hotel in Gstaad, Switzerland, in 100 years. A contemporary interpretation of the classic Alpine lodge, the resort incorporates local materials from the Bernese Oberland, including stone from the surrounding Alps and weathered timber from centuries-old farmhouses in Saanenland.
The 56-room property is set on five acres in Oberport, the hilltop area of the village, and features a 21,500-square-foot Six Senses Spa and the first European outpost of the celebrated Japanese restaurant MEGU. An outdoor pool affords uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountain scenery. The development also includes private apartments and three chalets.
