Modern Boutique Chic: Senato Hotel Milan Opens

Aside from being Italy’s business capital, Milan is the gateway city for many flights from the U.S. Although the city has long boasted distinguished grand hotels, its boutique options have been surprisingly limited. However, they have recently been augmented by the 43-room Senato Hotel Milan. Housed within a neoclassical palazzo, the property is set at the edge of the city’s famous Quadrilatero della Moda (fashion district); the Duomo and La Scala opera house are just over a 10-minute walk away.

Milanese architect Alessandro Bianchi supervised every aspect of the restoration and design, including the furniture. Serene accommodations come with white walls, herringbone oak floors, large windows with quadruple glazing and Carrara marble baths with bespoke Tonatto Profumi products. At the Senato Caffè, a “deliberately simple” menu of local specialties that has been curated by Maddalena Fossati Dondero, the brand director of La Cucina Italiana magazine. The dining room extends into a secluded garden courtyard. Other amenities include a small gym and a top-floor solarium.
