Local philanthropist David Walsh funded the museum, and since it opened in 2011, more than 600,000 visitors have come to experience his odd but consistently fascinating
collection. This includes more than 1,560 ancient artifacts and 650 modern pieces that range from Egyptian mummies to provocatively bizarre works by British artist Chris Ofili.
