The second destination in the May 2018 Hideaway Report focuses on Lyon, France, a delightful city that is as beautiful and refined as Paris but less hurried and less crowded. We have long recommended Villa Florentine in Lyon, but it was the opening of the 37-room Villa Maïa that sparked renewed interest and a long weekend trip to see it for ourselves.
The serene Villa Maïa is set high on the Fourvière hill in the ancient Antiquaille district. Common areas include a spacious duplex lobby with contemporary furnishings and a dramatic gold leaf-covered lighting fixture, an open lounge furnished with burgundy velvet sofas, a sunny open-plan bar appointed with striking oil-and-wood paintings and a breakfast room overlooking a private courtyard garden designed by French landscape architect Louis Benech.
From the editor: “In many ways, [Villa Maïa] has redefined Lyon as a destination.”
