The March 2018 Hideaway Report follows Andrew Harpers travels to Barcelona, a city that just keeps getting better and better despite some troubling times of late. We visited three hotels and only two made the cut: one overlooking the Passeig de Colom and the other on the Passeig de Gràcia.

Located in the historic Gothic Quarter with a beautiful 19th-century façade facing Port Vell waterfront harbor, this sophisticated boutique hotel housed Pablo Picasso’s first studio in 1896. Twenty-eight guest rooms and suites are bright and spacious and feature wrought-iron balconies and baths with walk-in rainfall showers; most suites also come with hot tubs and sitting areas with dining tables. This grand family-owned property was built in 1918, conveniently located on the Passeig de Gràcia near Gaudí’s iconic Casa Batlló. Renovated in 2013, the hotel incorporates modern conveniences with Old World elegance including marble staircases and period furniture. Many of the 275 guest accommodations feature bay windows, balconies, textured wallpaper, soothing color palettes of brown, beige and white and white-marble baths with rainfall showers and separate soaking tubs.
