Our editor spent two weeks exploring Georgia, a spectacular little country bounded by the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea. He stayed at several hotels, but these three checked all the boxes. Read more about his impressions below and check out the full report in the September 2018 Hideaway Report.

Stylish and cheerful, this 125-room hotel in a former publishing house is about a 20-minute walk to Tbilisi’s old center, near major museums and fashionable restaurants. Reserve a suite if possible; book nothing smaller than a Signature King. Accommodations have wood floors, masculine vintage décor and industrial-chic black-and-white baths; some with terraces.

From the editor: “A member of Design Hotels, the 125-room property looks fantastic in a magazine spread, with its entry hall library and adjacent lounge filled with fashionably mismatched midcentury modern-style furnishings.”

This contemporary 21-room hotel is located in central Sighnaghi, a beautifully restored hill town in Georgia’s most important wine region. Traditional Georgian elements ensure that the otherwise modern décor has warmth and a sense of place. Opt for a Deluxe Room or the King Erekle Suite, both of which have sensational panoramic views of the Alazani Valley and the edge of town.

From the editor: “Hotel Kabadoni’s Deluxe Rooms have balconies with a similar view, but because of the property’s relatively low rates, we splurged on the King Erekle Suite. I recommend you do the same.”

This renovated former elite Soviet resort in the Caucasus Mountains has been converted into a chic 155-room hotel. A visually striking midcentury modern-style library-lounge runs most of the length of the hotel, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing a broad terrace with breathtaking views of 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church and snowcapped Mount Kazbek. All accommodations have balconies, wood floors and attractive décor mixing vintage and modern elements, but all rooms are small (no suites).

From the editor: “Rooms Kazbegi’s striking design, lively atmosphere, stupendous views and compelling excursions make the hotel easy to like.”
