The July Hideaway Report follows Andrew Harper's travels to the Dordogne, where he discovered two new luxury hotels to recommend. Read more about the new additions — both romantic castles — below.
Lacave, France
Château de la Treyne is a romantic 17th-century castle rising from a limestone bluff above the Dordogne River, surrounded by almost 300 acres of formal gardens and forests. Magnificently regal public spaces, including the candlelit Louis XIII salon, with deeply coffered ceilings and an Aubusson tapestry, home to a Michelin-starred restaurant.
Mercuès, France
Château de Mercuès is housed in a turreted, 13th-century fairy-tale castle crowning a hilltop with panoramic views of the Lot River, not far from the city of Cahors. Thirty plush guest rooms have dramatic Empire- or French country-style furnishings, some with original parquet floors, crown molding and decorative fireplaces.
