Newly Recommended Hotels in Grenada

While much of the Caribbean is still recovering from the hurricanes of 2017, the island nation of Grenada is open for business. It boasts palm-fringed beaches, emerald mountains and a colorful capital. Here are two hotels our editor discovered on a recent trip.

Silversands

Set on Grenada’s largest and most popular beach, the 2-mile-long Grand Anse, this resort has an international, Asian-inspired contemporary style. The airy lobby overlooks what is purportedly the Caribbean’s longest infinity pool, flanked by numerous loungers and daybeds. The 43 sleek rooms have sliding glass doors opening to furnished terraces with sea views. The fine Asiatique restaurant serves Japanese and Thai cuisine in a soaring dining room or on a pool-view patio, and the Grenadian Grill serves upscale local dishes. Expect very friendly and accommodating service throughout the resort.

What our editor says: “Such a dramatic entrance, enhanced by chilled towels and welcome drinks of coconut water and Prosecco, made for an extremely favorable first impression.”

Spice Island Beach Resort

Decorated in a traditional Caribbean/colonial style, this 64-room resort divides its accommodations among Seagrape Beach Suites fronting the Grand Anse and, behind them, suites that compensate for their lack of views with private pools. Our Seagrape Beach Suite came with a skylit bath, dark wood furnishings enlivened with splashes of turquoise and sea-foam green, and a delightful beachfront patio with a dinette, loungers and a hammock. Its minibar, like all meals and house beverages at the resort, is included in the rate, but the resort is not a party scene and the cuisine is surprisingly good. Service is unfailingly attentive, warm and anticipatory.

What our editor says: “Considering the short time that Silversands has been operational — the resort opened in December — the staff works with impressive organization and efficiency. It didn’t take long for employees to greet us by name, and everyone was eminently friendly and helpful.”
