The April Hideaway Report took Andrew Harper to Portugal where he finds two new luxury hotels to recommend, included below. Mr. Harper also travels to Palm Springs where he reviews new and existing hotel options.
Lisbon, Portugal
Valverde Hotel is a chic 25-room townhouse on the Avenida da Liberdade, a tree-shaded boulevard lined with top designer boutiques, within walking distance of the Baixa and Chiado neighborhoods. It offers contemporary but warm and quirky décor designed by Porto-based firm Bastir.
Lisbon, Portugal
This impressively refurbished former ministry is in a superbly central location on the Praça do Comércio, the grand plaza between the Baixa neighborhood and the Tagus estuary. Pousada de Lisboa's excellent RIB Beef & Wine restaurant is worth a visit even if staying in another hotel.
Palm Springs, California
L'Horizon, a secluded hideaway on Palm Canyon Drive, was originally designed in 1952 by renowned architect William F. Cody as a family retreat for the television producer, oil tycoon and hotel owner Jack Wrather and his wife, actress Bonita Granville. In its new incarnation in June of 2015, the resort encompasses the residence and 24 individual bungalows set on three acres dotted with mature palm trees.
