Hurricane Odile News from the Baja Peninsula

.article-cta-top

Hurricane Odile is the most powerful hurricane to ever make landfall on the Baja Peninsula. The gale-force winds of the Category 3 hurricane snapped palm trees and telephone poles like matchsticks; torrential downpours caused rampant flooding in the streets. The Weather Channel reports "extensive damage" and that Odile "[carved] a wide swath of destruction." Ports, beaches, schools and celebrations for Independence Day today have been cancelled throughout the Baja California Sur state. Los Cabos International Airport was also severely affected, stranding many.

We are relieved that our properties in the area have reported that all employees and guests are safe. Many hotels relocated their guests to California; Esperanza delivered their guests safely to San Diego. Unfortunately, we must report that One&Only Palmilla, Capella Pedregal, Esperanza and Las Ventanas al Paraiso have closed to evaluate the damage to their properties.

We will continue to post updates on this page as estimated times for clean-up and closures become more certain.
