Reader Survey 2013 Results

Each year, I ask you to tell me about your recent travels. I am pleased to report that Andrew Harper subscribers still vacation an average of 35 days a year. And 33 percent of you plan to travel more in the coming year. As ever, the survey threw up some surprises, as well as much that was more predictable. Your three favorite countries remain Italy, France and England. But I also learned of travel plans that ranged from Australia to Zambia, and just about everywhere in between. Perhaps the most astonishing result was that California’s Post Ranch Inn was voted No. 1 U.S. Hideaway for the sixth year in a row! Two of my personal favorites — Ireland’s Ballyfin Demesne and Zarafa Camp in Botswana — made it onto the list of top International Hideaways for the first time. As was the case in 2012, your favorite discovery was Amangiri in Utah. And among the disappointments, the most notable were the newly refurbished Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles and Hawaii’s Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.
