The Rundetaarn (Round Tower) is Europe’s oldest functioning observatory, dating to the 17th century. Just a short 10-minute walk west from the beautifully restored Hotel D’Angleterre, the outing makes for a convenient morning sightseeing activity in Copenhagen. We suggest starting out early to avoid crowds.
The gradual climb up 7.5 turns of the tower’s spiral ramp leads to an observation deck 114 feet above ground and provides sweeping views across the city. The building is now used as a library and concert hall and by amateur astronomers. We found the stone walkway, domed arches and whitewashed walls of the interior to be just as intriguing as the view from the top.
