On a return visit to Pantelleria, we will probably rent a house. Toward the end of our stay, I toured several of the properties represented by the island’s best villa-rental agent, the charming English-speaking Giovanni Matta. A native of Palermo, Matta lived in New York for five years before returning to Italy and starting his agency, Pantelleria Collection. His properties include “Djenna,” a five-bedroom, five-bath villa in 12 acres of gardens with spectacular sea views. Amenities include a woodburning pizza oven, a gourmet kitchen, a home movie theater, a sophisticated music system, a wine cellar and a 40-foot infinity pool. The services of a private cook can be arranged. Rates on request. A seven-night stay is generally required during high season. Highly recommended.
