We acquired some wonderful vintage photographs of the Harper-recommended, The Driskill in Austin, TX. Located in the heart of downtown at the corner of Sixth Street and Brazos Street, the hotel has been an Austin institution since 1886. Since then the property has changed hands numerous times and has been renovated even more. According to the hotel, in 1969 The Driskill was forced to close its doors and rumors of a modern, 19 story glass tower began to surface. Thanks to a “Save The Driskill" effort spearheaded by passionate community members and the Austin Heritage Society, the hotel was reopened to the public in 1973. For a full rundown of the hotel's history, check out the interactive timeline on The Driskill's website here. Enjoy!
