The Czech Republic comprises the historic regions of Bohemia and Moravia, as well as parts of Silesia. Bohemia contains about two-thirds of its total population. The St. George Forest is located in Central Bohemia, about 35 miles northeast of Prague. The name is said to be derived from that of a nearby monastery that provided protection to travelers. Today, the region offers numerous cycling and walking trails, as well as fishing, hunting and cross-country skiing. The forest is famous throughout the Czech Republic for its wild mushrooms.
