The wide, pastoral valley of Urseren lies between two massifs — the Aaremassif and the Saint-Gotthard — in the Adula Alps. The impressive mountain slopes attract hikers, cyclists and golfers during summer and skiers in winter. Though the area is not suitable for cultivation because of the extremely hilly terrain, the artisanal production of honey and cheese is an added draw for travelers. Andermatt, the largest of the villages in the valley, is a snow-sure winter sports destination and makes a perfect base.
