Gstaad is located at 3,400 feet in the German-speaking section of the canton of Bern in southwestern Switzerland. It offers one of the largest ski areas in the Alps. The middle of the village is a car-free zone, where the famous promenade is lined with glamorous shops and restaurants. Gstaad is the winter home of the Institut Le Rosey, the oldest private boarding school in Switzerland (est. 1880) and the so-called “School of Kings.” In summer, the Menuhin Festival Gstaad for classical music attracts visitors from around the world.
