Set in the first 12 floors of a 50-story tower, this sophisticated hotel is conveniently located opposite the Museum of Modern Art. The Grand Salon is extravagantly decorated with massive chandeliers, beautiful display cases, a mica-flecked vaulted ceiling, silver-leafed wood paneling, marble and mirror wall treatments, and thoughtfully placed seating areas. The bar features wood walls and a black-and-white checkerboard floor. The 114 rooms designed by Gilles & Boissier are just as impressive, with floor-to-ceiling windows, crystal fixtures, separate sitting areas and indulgent baths with white-marble surfaces. Note that a limited menu is offered in the salons and library. Amenities include a La Mer spa with four treatment rooms, a 50-foot pool lined with cabanas and a small gym.
