Regarded as one of the architectural gems of Ireland, this restored 1826 Regency mansion is owned by Chicago businessman Fred Krehbiel. Set in 614 acres of parkland, the splendid hotel is the embodiment of sumptuous comfort. Public spaces are elegant, with a grand foyer marked by Corinthian columns and an 80-foot-long library that runs the length of the house’s south façade. Each of the 20 rooms is individually decorated with authentic furniture and original art. Meals are served in the State Dining or Van Der Hagen rooms, while a charming space set next to the well-stocked wine cellar houses a bar. The property also has a spa and a gym. Wine and whiskey tastings can be arranged, as can fishing and golf excursions. The hotel does not permit children under the age of 9 and is closed January to mid-February.
