This tranquil 370-acre estate, 90 minutes from Buenos Aires, comprises 11 rooms divided among the original 1830 manor house and other more-modern buildings constructed in a similar style. Simple but striking rooms with antique colonial furnishings and dark wood floors are small, so be sure to reserve the largest available, such as Mariposa or Lalabai. Beautifully decorated common areas include a fashionable polo-themed lounge, a library in the manor’s tower and the cozy Pulperia, a former gaucho tavern with exposed-brick walls and a woodburning fireplace, for breakfast and afternoon tea. Communal asado lunches and dinners served around a single table foster a gracious house-party feel. The property has two polo fields, an unheated swimming pool and a spa treatment room, and horseback riding excursions, carriage rides and guided tours of San Antonio de Areco can be arranged. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted at the hotel.
