This enchanting property is an amalgam of buildings (including an 11th-century palazzo) overlooking the Gulf of Salerno 1,000 feet below. The impossibly romantic terraced gardens offer panoramic views. Vaulted fresco-covered ceilings, whitewashed walls and hand-painted tiles distinguish the 50 rooms and suites. The new two-suite Villa Margherita is the most exclusive on-site accommodation. Chef Mimmo di Raffaele serves delicious Mediterranean cuisine at the elegant Belvedere Restaurant, where most guests dress for dinner and vie for tables on the lovely terrace. There is also an informal poolside dining option and a piano bar. The property’s principal amenity is a sublime horizon pool and a wellness center with a fitness area and two treatment rooms. Complimentary shuttle service to and from the towns of Amalfi and Positano is offered daily, as are excursions on the hotel’s private wooden boat. The property is closed from November to mid-April.
