Owned by the National Trust, this impressive 17th-century country house hotel set on a 200-acre estate on the north coast of Wales features striking views of Snowdonia and the dramatic Conwy Castle. Landscaped grounds contain a centuries-old knot garden of boxwood hedges and herbs; fascinating garden tours followed by a two-course luncheon are offered. The property’s gourmet restaurant serves noteworthy regional dishes. Additional public spaces include a drawing room, a spa, a gym and a 50-foot indoor pool. The main building, accented by stone mullioned windows, elaborate paneling and stained-glass windows, has 15 mahogany-furnished guestrooms (request the Mostyn Suite or newer Vaughan Suite). There are also 16 cottage-style rooms clustered around a courtyard. Children under age 6 are not permitted.
