This charming 13th-century manor house hotel is located at the edge of the unspoiled village of Buckland near Broadway. All 15 stylish guest quarters are elegantly appointed with fine antiques, original artwork and rich wallcoverings, but lack A/C. Request the Vaulted Master Room or the Fountain Deluxe Room, though Oak, Delany, Floral and Scott are also very comfortable. Common areas include a restful drawing room that features oak paneling, beamed ceilings, Oriental carpets and woodburning fireplaces. The candlelit restaurant serves classic British dishes that employ herbs from the manor’s own gardens and fresh produce from farms and orchards in the neighboring Vale of Evesham area (jackets are required in the main dining room). The estate also encompasses 10 acres of ornamental gardens, a tennis court and a croquet lawn nestled among woodland. Children under the age of 10 are not permitted.
The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon is conveniently located 30 minutes away.
Lowest Rate: Classic Room, $380; Editor’s Choice: Master Room, $750.
