Located 15 minutes from Lake Louise, this remote retreat set among evergreen trees is backdropped by dramatic Cathedral Mountain in Yoho National Park. The 31 guest rooms lodged within 23 traditional log cabins feature Canadian antiques and rustic, custom-made beds. Premier Cabins include woodburning stone fireplaces and private decks with views of the surrounding peaks. Note that all rooms lack televisions and telephones. Common areas include the Great Room, as well as a restaurant with 24-foot vaulted ceilings and an indoor-outdoor rock fireplace. It provides expansive views of the Kicking Horse River and offers a menu that showcases local, organic ingredients. Guided hikes, helicopter tours and horseback riding and fishing excursions can be arranged. Canoeing outings arranged by the hotel’s sister property, Moraine Lake Lodge, are complimentary. Though the property lacks a spa, treatments can be booked at excellent wellness facilities nearby. The resort is closed every year from October to the end of May.
The popular restaurant books up quickly, so advance reservations are a must.
Lowest Rate: Deluxe Twin Cabin, $500; Editor’s Choice: Premier Cabin, $640.
