Editors' Note:
The Hideaway Report’s recommended hotels are intended to be places of refuge from the world, where guests are surrounded by an atmosphere of tranquility and repose. In this context, it is our responsibility to inform members that Coworth Park is part of the Dorchester Collection, a group owned by the Sultan of Brunei. Despite having prominent luxury hotels in major Western cities such as Paris, London and Los Angeles, back home in his Southeast Asian nation, the Sultan has recently implemented a strict interpretation of sharia, specifically that individuals convicted of participating in gay relations can be punished by stoning to death. Due to this development, we no longer feel able to give this hotel a "recommended" rating.
This relaxed 70-room hotel is located within a 1776 Georgian country house, several cottages and a wing of converted stables. The property is set on a 240-acre estate on the outskirts of Ascot, eight miles from Windsor and nine miles from Heathrow Airport. A variety of accommodations, all done in contemporary style, provide details such as woodburning fireplaces and terraces. Dining options include the one-star Restaurant Coworth Park, with a menu of seasonal modern British cuisine, and The Barn, which offers casual dining against a picturesque backdrop of an artificial lake and polo fields. Amenities include a spa with a 60-foot indoor pool, a gym, a restaurant serving healthful cuisine and a wide range of equestrian activities available.
