Run by husband-and-wife team Peter and Bobbie Martin, this small, secluded hotel is located a 50-minute drive west of Nelson. Set amid 50 acres of private grounds and 8 acres of landscaped gardens, the property comprises two cottages and the main house’s new Edenhouse Suite, a 1,280-square-foot one-bedroom accommodation with a kitchenette and a scenic veranda. The two-bedroom Garden Cottage features a peaceful living room with an English country house-style décor, an outdoor deck and two baths, and the Folly cottage comes with a private veranda and separate water garden. Common spaces encompass a dining room, a library, an artists’ studio and outdoor courtyards. Activities include boating, horse treks and hiking in the nearby Abel Tasman National Park, and wine tasting in the Nelson Tasman wine region. The Motueka River, a famous trout stream, is within a five-minute drive.
