Located in the Central Business District, just a short walk from the French Quarter, this 196-room hotel is composed of seven 19th-century warehouses that once belonged to different New Orleans businesses, including the Daily Picayune, a local newspaper whose publisher, Eliza Jane Nicholson, gives the hotel its name. The striking reception area, with hex-tiled floors and blue-paneled front desk, feels like a modern version of an old-fashioned railroad hotel. The expansive lobby opens to a 60-foot atrium and offers plenty of seating at the bar and the attached Press Room lounge. The highlight of our 525-square-foot Editor’s King Suite was the luxurious vintage-modern bath, which featured brass fixtures, black and white tiles, a stand-alone tub within the shower area and a large floor-to-ceiling window. Couvant, the hotel’s French brasserie, is housed in the original Peychaud’s Bitters factory. This property is not, by definition, a hideaway, but the layout of the hotel almost makes it feel like one.
