This historic enclave set on a 13-acre forested peninsula, just 20 minutes west of Lake Louise, overlooks a glacial lake in Yoho National Park. Massive stone fireplaces and antique furnishings embellish a hand-hewn timbered lodge with cozy reading rooms, a lounge with an oak bar salvaged from an 1890s Yukon saloon, the atmospheric Kicking Horse Lounge and a formal dining room for “Rocky Mountain cuisine” featuring hearty meat dishes. The 85 comfortable rooms are housed in two dozen weathered-wood cabins, most with corner fieldstone fireplaces, twig chairs and scenic decks. Note that there is no A/C, and Wi-Fi is available only in the main lodge. The recommended Point Cabin includes dining and living rooms and a wraparound deck with superlative lake views. The property also has a Clubhouse with a dry sauna, a gym and an outdoor stainless-steel hot tub. Hiking, canoeing and horseback riding are offered in summer, and skiing, dog sledding and skating in winter.
