This property, featuring a stylish central lodge and nine safari tents, is located in a transition zone between cultivated land and the national park. A glass-walled main lodge facing the Pacific includes a large log fire and a cozy bar. Hillside tents built on wooden platforms are comfortable (but not luxurious) and come with writing desks, furnished balconies with an ocean view and a design that blends in with the surrounding natural landscape. Additionally, one three-bedroom family suite is available. The dining room serves excellent Ecuadorian and international dishes, while amenities and activities include a small infinity pool, a seasonal kids’ club, hiking, kayaking and diving excursions.

The feeling of being “on safari”; the inspiring view; the excellent cuisine; the well-organized activities.
The tents are comfortable but not especially spacious compared with those at equivalent properties in Africa.
A land base cannot provide the same sense of remoteness that you experience on a boat. On Santa Cruz Island, civilization seems relatively close by. The town of Puerto Ayora (population 12,000) lies 13 miles to the southeast of camp.
Editor’s Choice: Luxury Tent for two, $1,700 (all meals, land-based safari activities and ground transfers included).
Daily buffet breakfast served at the restaurant; Nightly dinner; Wi-Fi in public areas
