Overlooking 107 acres of parkland along the banks of the North Teign River, this distinctive Tudor-style sanctuary is two and a half hours southwest of Bath and 20 miles west of Exeter. The 24 individually designed rooms contain antiques, paintings and art prints and provide river or forest views, but lack A/C. Request one of the accommodations that include a balcony with a private hot tub. The creative tasting menus served at the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant are complemented by an outstanding wine cellar with more than 13,000 bottles. On the premises are a tennis court, two croquet lawns and an 18-hole putting course (closed during winter months). The nearby Dartmoor National Park offers country walks, riding and fishing for trout and salmon.
