This imposing golf resort opened in 1924 on an 850-acre estate with three 18-hole championship courses and a sophisticated sports complex. The property is 75 minutes northwest of Edinburgh. The 232 recently renovated accommodations are done in a contemporary or traditional country house décor. The country club atmosphere is enhanced by lavish salons and fine restaurants, including the two-star Andrew Fairlie (chef Andrew Fairlie passed away in January) for gourmet French cuisine; the spectacular new Strathearn restaurant featuring a design inspired by the golden era of railway travel; and the Birnam Brasserie for all-day dining. Additionally, afternoon tea is served in the refurbished Glendevon Room. Amenities include a PGA National Golf Academy, a destination ESPA spa and wellness center with 18 treatment rooms, two indoor pools (one is adults-only), tennis courts, fishing, a pitch-and-putt golf course and falconry/gun-dog, equestrian and shooting schools.
