Owned by distinguished winemaker Bernard Magrez, who has four grands crus classés châteaux in the Bordeaux region, this elegant six-room hotel occupies a handsome 18th-century limestone mansion in a quiet residential neighborhood outside Bordeaux’s city center. It showcases the region’s wines and features an excellent two-star restaurant with seasonally changing menus overseen by Pierre Gagnaire. Comfortable rooms are decorated in a traditional French bourgeois style with fabrics from Pierre Frey and Braquenié, furniture by Moissonnier and toiletries by Guerlain. Baths feature heated limestone floors and rainfall showers. Even without amenities such as a gym or pool, this is still a fine property in a pleasant park setting. Restaurant is closed Sunday and Monday.

Comfortable and beautifully decorated rooms; superb restaurant.
The slightly chilly style of hos-pitality; the €10 parking fee, which seemed cheeseparing given stiff room rates and the difficulty of finding parking elsewhere.
The hotel can arrange wine tastings and tours of Bernard Magrez’s châteaux; see luxurywineexperience.com for more information.
Lowest Rate: Superior Room, $500; Editor’s Choice: Prestige Room, $620.
