Located in the Burren, this family-owned 18th-century country house hotel overlooks beautifully landscaped gardens, mountains and Galway Bay. Large windows in the 21 individually decorated art- and antiques-filled guest quarters provide majestic views. While some accommodations have the added luxury of private gardens, all lodgings lack A/C and televisions. Delicious locally sourced food is served in an elegant dining room, and the relaxing Corkscrew Bar with its turf fire is ideal for light lunches, afternoon tea or apéritifs in the evening. Well-organized excursions include boat tours along the dramatic Cliffs of Moher, sea angling off the Clare Coast, journeys by ferry to the Aran Islands between April and October, and day trips to the renowned Lahinch Golf Club about 15 miles away. The property is closed from December to mid-February.
We recommend booking a Premier Suite, specifically the Martyn, which includes a carved-stone fireplace, a private courtyard garden and a separate sitting area with well-stocked bookshelves.
Lowest Rate: Small Classic Room, $310; Editor’s Choice: Premier Suite, $580.
