This extremely remote and exceptionally atmospheric ecolodge is set on a glorious white-sand beach fronting Lake Tanganyika at the edge of Mahale Mountains National Park. The nearby forest is home to a large population of habituated chimpanzees, and this is probably the best place in the world to see the primates. The six lodgings feature large sleeping areas and second-floor decks. A main open-fronted thatched building houses a bar and a dining area. Outdoor activities include chimp tracking, kayaking, fishing and boating trips. Children over the age of 8 are welcome at the lodge, but children under the age of 12 are not permitted to visit the chimpanzees. The lodge is closed from mid-March to early June.
