This playfully eccentric 91-room flagship property of Firmdale Hotels is set in historic Soho, a district once infamous for seedy nightclubs but long grown respectable. The hotel is on the edge of Theatreland and Mayfair and just minutes from Savile Row and Cork Street. Décor features Kit Kemp’s imaginative and idiosyncratic style. Junior Suites include separate sitting areas and exemplary baths clad in attractive gray marble. For best views, request a room on one of the higher floors overlooking Ham Yard. Expansive, colorful public areas include a central leafy courtyard with a bronze sculpture by Tony Cragg and an animated restaurant serving a seasonal menu of modern British cuisine. If looking for something more casual, the adjoining bar offers a selection of small plates. Other amenities include a residents-only library, a roof garden, a bowling alley, a small spa and a well-equipped basement gym with personal trainers, although no swimming pool is at the establishment.
