This atmospheric 51-room hotel encompasses 16th- and 18th-century mansions surrounding courtyards planted with orange trees. The main patio features a glass floor that displays original Roman ruins 14 feet below ground. All lodgings feature a minimalist décor, terra-cotta tiles, velvet headboards and original wall paintings. Most of the eight Junior Suites include reading areas. The excellent Restaurante Arbequina, overseen by chef Javier Moreno, serves contemporary and regional dishes. There is also a more casual tapas bar open from April to October. Amenities include a sun terrace, a spa with Roman baths and an outdoor pool set in an orange grove flanked by Roman columns.
The prix fixe menu served at dinner combines ingredients and cooking styles from Peru, Mexico, Vietnam, Japan and Thailand. The delicious dishes are unique and memorable.
Lowest Rate: Dreamer’s Room, $350; Editor’s Choice: Junior Suite, $740.
