Relaxed but stylish 10-room auberge created by star chef Alain Ducasse from a former 12th-century Benedictine abbey in the village of La Celle, just outside Draguignan. The hotel was once a favorite retreat of President Charles de Gaulle, his preferred “Lucrèce de Barras” being a spacious suite with a beamed ceiling, ancient tile floors spread with Brussels carpets, a Dutch desk, a pair of armchairs in front of the fireplace and an oak dressing room. Chef Nicolas Pierantoni oversees the excellent one-star restaurant, which offers attentive service and a menu of authentic regional cuisine. Pleasant bar, sun lounge, large shaded terrace, secluded outdoor swimming pool (open May through September) and lovely grounds. Spa services available.
