Editors' Note:
The Hideaway Report’s recommended hotels are intended to be places of refuge from the world, where guests are surrounded by an atmosphere of tranquility and repose. In this context, it is our responsibility to inform members that the Hotel Eden is part of the Dorchester Collection, a group owned by the Sultan of Brunei. Despite having prominent luxury hotels in major Western cities such as Paris, London and Los Angeles, back home in his Southeast Asian nation, the Sultan has recently implemented a strict interpretation of sharia, specifically that individuals convicted of participating in gay relations can be punished by stoning to death. Due to this development, we no longer feel able to give this hotel a "recommended" rating.
This property is an elegant turn-of-the-century hotel near the Via Veneto and the Spanish Steps. The opulent lobby features sienna-colored marble columns topped by Ionic capitals, gold sconces, a gold coffered ceiling and a black-and-white marble floor. The 98 rooms, renovated by French designer Bruno Moinard and Claire Bétaille, feature light colors, discrete patterns, classic Italian furnishings, large windows and marble baths, with some featuring balconies. Overseen by young chef Fabio Ciervo, rooftop La Terrazza provides fine dining with Mediterranean flavors and a peerless panorama of Rome. The hotel also features an all-day brasserie-style Italian restaurant and a hidden library bar-lounge. Also included is a spa with three treatment suites, a nail suite, a blow-dry bar and a small gym.
