Charming boutique hotel occupying an 18th-century former stable complex in the historic center of Strasbourg. Designed by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, its contemporary décor is nicely balanced with the fine old building. The equestrian-themed lobby leads to a spacious private garden. The 55 guest rooms feature leather and wood accents, handsome custom-made furniture and solid oak floors. The Authentique rooms in the attic include beamed ceilings and courtyard views. The celebrated restaurant, Brasserie Les Haras, is under the direction of chef Marc Haeberlin and serves updated Alsatian classics. Though the hotel lacks a spa, gym and pool, it offers a distinctive personality and a convenient location.

Intriguing and sophisticated renovation of historic royal stables; exceptional modern furniture in well-designed rooms.
Distant young staff at the front desk.
Rooms in the modern annex should be avoided, as they are devoid of charm. Brasserie Les Haras is extremely popular and should be booked well in advance.
Deluxe Room, $300; Authentique Room, $380.
