This ingeniously designed hotel is set on a lush private islet in Las Isletas, a remarkable archipelago in vast Lake Nicaragua under the shadow of Mombacho Volcano. Built with auburn-hued cedar recovered from hurricane-felled trees, nine airy raised duplex casitas have shoji-like walls, dramatic baths and irresistible lake-view hammocks but lack air-conditioning. Public areas include an infinity pool, a yoga deck, a spa with open-air treatment rooms and a convivial restaurant serving delicious local fish and lamb. Tours of historic Granada and nearby market towns can be arranged, as can kayaking, fishing and bird-watching. This hospitable island sanctuary will satisfy active nature lovers, as well as those seeking relaxation and escape. Children under the age of 12 are permitted only during certain times of the year.
